The Samsung Health Monitor App finally arrives in Italy, which helps users who own a Samsung Watch to better monitor their health conditions. In particular, users who own the Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2 can now use the blood pressure and electrocardiogram monitoring functions through the Samsung Health Monitor app.
Let’s find out more about the new Samsung application that arrived in Italy these days.
Samsung has obtained permission from the South Korean Ministry of Food Safety and Medicines to make the ECG reading function available. Both features were released on the two smartwatches last summer, but only in relation to the Korean market, waiting to receive the necessary certifications to be used in other countries. Having obtained the CE certification in December 2020, the Samsung App is now available in 28 European countries, including Italy.
Blood Pressure Assessment
Hypertension is often associated with brain, kidney, and heart disease, and if left untreated, it can cause strokes and coronary heart disease. Thus, Galaxy smartwatches can measure blood pressure using the Samsung Health Monitor application, which provides users with a more profound insight into their health status and allows them to make more informed decisions about their well-being.
These smartwatches are calibrated with a traditional blood pressure device, and it measures blood pressure through heart rate monitoring sensors at any time and anywhere. The program analyzes the relationship between the calibration value and the change in blood pressure to determine the current value. Further, to ensure accuracy, users are required to calibrate the device at least every four weeks.
Electrocardiogram Monitoring
It is estimated that around 33.5 million people worldwide are affected by Atrial Fibrillation (AFib), a common form of abnormal heart rhythm. AFib is often the cause of cardiac complications, including blood clots, failure, and strokes. Thus, the electrocardiogram function, on the other hand, analyzes the electrical activity of the heart through a sensor present on Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2. The measurement takes about 30 seconds.
To use it, simply access the Samsung Health Monitor application when you are sitting comfortably and ensure that the watch is firmly placed on your wrist. The application will measure the heart rate and rhythm, which is classified as Sinus Rhythm (normal and regular heartbeat) or AFib (when the heart beats irregularly).
In fact, that Galaxy Watch 3 can also work as a real oximeter, even if it not exactly like a medical device, but its readings are slmost accurate. Among the other innovations, you will also find the introduction of a guiding voice (you need headphones to hear it) that reports data on the heartbeat and the distance traveled during the race and the automatic recording of activities related to cycling.
“ Nearly one million people have used the Samsung Health Monitor app to monitor their health since its initial launch in Korea last June. We are committed to ensuring that more and more people around the world can take advantage of this innovative service dedicated to health, and the latest extension is truly a milestone for our goal.” Concludes, TaeJong Jay Yang, Corporate SVP and Head of Health Team, commented on the release of the Samsung Health Monitor App in Europe.
